She glanced heavenward at the night sky soon to be adorned with fireworks, surrounded by people eager to start the countdown.
Giggling kids waved sparklers and for a moment, she wished to be in their shoes, innocent and unburdened.

Interesting perspective. Each day is new, but the ‘New Year’ we all take it as a sign of bigger, and better, things to come. Are we too hopeful? Wishing you a very Happy New Year!
It’s always good to be hopeful but it’s not like your life will change overnight and I suppose for some who live a stressful life, it’s difficult to join in the overwhelming atmosphere with the same amount of excitement.
Thanks a lot and Happy New Year to you too! π
“just” another day. I guess in reality it is, but we always hope for the start of something bigger. Happy New Year!
That we do! Thank you! Happy New Year to you too! π
Such melancholy in the lines, I felt her burden and sorrow. Everyday is special in its own but we need extra special days to milestone our lives. Hoping this person gets to see some beauty in the ordinary days. Never underestimate the glory of sunshine through the rain. Love your writing from the soul!
Very well said! These extra special days should be taken advantage of to make you smile just a bit more! Thank you so much! Glad you liked it! π
