TLT: In Vain

Freedom was just a few yards away.

But I should have guessed that it would never have let me leave, for as I rushed towards the light, I realized my strides were in an infinite loop.

Its monstrous laugh permeated my confines, the echoes increasing in intensity, and with each mocking roar I felt the urge to advance forward, futilely.

    You and I had very similar takes on this prompt! Or maybe I’m reading into yours because of mine. I do love that horrible tension of being drawn toward escape, and the exit seems to be right there, but it somehow stays just out of reach.
