FFfAW: A True Friend

Jessica was dying and hadn’t told anyone. She moved out of the city, leaving all that she loved behind. Why stay in a place flooded with memories, knowing you could never make any more? Why watch your friends plan for the future, when you had none?

She shifted into a small town and kept to herself.

A few weeks later, an SUV drove up and she was startled to see Dan, her next door neighbour from the city.

“Dan! How….”

“We’ve been friends for years, you didn’t just think I’d let you disappear on me like that, did you?”

Jessica broke down and told him everything.

Dan hugged her. His eyes welled up and he hurriedly gulped back his tears.

Then, he gently held her by the shoulders and lifted her chin.

“Jess, you’re coming back with me. I’m not giving up and I’m not letting you give up either, do you hear me?”

The doctor gave her a year. She lived for two, with Dan beside her every step of the way.

A very sad and heartfelt story! Friends are very important in our life and she found out how much of a friend she had in Dan. His following her was probably the most imortant thing that happened in her life during that trying time.
