The autumn leaves had changed colour and Debbie hated hearing about it.
Debbie was blind and would never see the beauty everyone else did.
She’d go to the stream and furiously flick pebbles.
“Any harder and the poor stones will cry out for mercy.”
Debbie jumped, lost in thought, she hadn’t heard anyone approaching.
“Go away Danny.”
Danny lived next door and was always teasing her.
She felt him sit down nearby.
“You’re so lucky, you get to experience nature’s real beauty,” he said.
Convinced he was making fun of her, she started to respond indignantly but he interrupted.
“We just see, but don’t really feel..or hear…not like you do. I bet you can describe the gurgling stream and the chirping birds better than me.”
Hearing the genuineness in his voice, Debbie gulped back tears.
Danny squeezed her hand gently.
“It’s alright Debs, we’ll enjoy this world together, you tell me yours and I’ll tell you mine, deal?”
Listening to the soft ripples of the water and sweets tweets of the birds, Debbie smiled.
Nice sweet tale and well written.
Thank you so much! I really appreciate it! ☺
A naive but authentic tale. Thank you for plopping it here for me to smile😇
😊
the sweetness of a childhood friendship unsullied by the harsh world where kids have no prejudice….loveliest story yet
You’ve said it perfectly! Thank you so much! I really appreciate it! 🙂
Autumn already? Beautiful story.
The magic of stories can do that! 🙂 Thanks!
Cute story S. So happy they can describe fall to each other, and she can get that visual description, she lacks. A happy ending 🙂
Yes! A happy ending for both! 🙂 Thanks a lot! 🙂
Oh my gosh, I LOVED this!! So sweet and heart touching! Fantastic!!
Thank youuu!! I’m really happy you liked it so much!! It was really going over the limit and at first I thought the final version wouldn’t have the same spark! …Thanks a lot!! 🙂
My pleasure!
A very lovely and heartwarming story. Debbie’s blindness opened her eyes to nature, and it seems, her next door neighbour understood her far better than she could ever have imagined.
Thank you so much for your comment! Glad you liked it! ☺
I can almost remember being that innocent and the friends I had when I was 🙂
