“A yard sale?!” they exclaimed in unison.
“But why?” asked Jonathan, raising his eyebrows in surprise.
“Have you seen the junk that’s been collecting in the attic?” responded his wife curtly.
Looking at the blank faces of her husband and two kids staring back at her, Annie sighed.
“Come on then, quick march!”
Up in the attic, Simon was the first to stake claim.
“My baseball glove!”
“The one you’d forgotten existed?” snapped his mother.
“My fishing jacket!” said Jonathan, seizing the faded garment.
“You’ve not been fishing in over five years!” Annie groaned.
“Aww, my silk corsage,” Ally smiled dreamily, as fond memories of her prom night from four years ago flashed through her mind.
Annie cleared her throat in an unusually loud manner.
Six pleading pairs of eyes glanced up at her, their treasures clutched firmly in their hands, signs of claiming the rest of their valuables abundantly clear.
“What kind of a yard sale is this?” Mrs. Prescott looked confused.
All she could see was a glass cupboard, a coupled of grey marble slabs and few pieces of clothing.
Mum had been determined to get rid of even one useless item, besides, she’d already printed the flyers.

Well a few items gone is something 🙂 Her kids will move out and forget about things, she can get rid of more then 🙂
Haha! Yes! That’s true! Guess all she has to do is wait it out! 😀
It takes courage to get rid of things–last year I took a deep breath and started filling up bags and boxes FAST, before I could notice what I was relinquishing 🙂
Haha! Good for you! That first step can be uneasy, but once you’re done, you won’t even notice what’s gone! 🙂
It’s true–my memory is a sieve! The other night I was looking for a blue dinner plate…”it must have gone away” 🙂
As a bit hoarder I’m on her family’s side on this one! Some things have too much sentimental value to get rid of. My Dad, on the other hand, hates clutter and has been known to get rid of stuff without even asking us. I’ve gone looking for things I stored in the attack several times only to find them gone. A very enjoyable story. 🙂
When it comes to certain things which really evoke sentimental feelings, I too feel this way! 🙂 There’s always a good mix of character traits in the same family! Thanks for reading! 🙂
*attic. Sometimes I hate auto-correct.
Heh sometimes it takes the threat of removing something to make us realise that we do still want and love it.
Haha! Yes! The feeling of forever losing certain things can most definitely do that! 🙂
Yes, yes! The flyers have been printed…that’s the important thing. Everything must go 😀
Haha! Yes! Let’s hope mum manages to keep up her determination! 🙂
Funny! Poor mum – she’s planned it all so well and now there’s barely anything to sell!
Haha! Yes…she was all set to go/sell full speed ahead…maybe next time! 🙂
