The bullies were waiting for Michael as he walked home. With a vicious swing at his knees, Michael buckled and dropped to the ground.
Surrounded by the gang of four, pointing and snickering at him, it was all he could do to hold back his tears.
“Even his shadow’s a coward!”
More roars of laughter and then, an abrupt silence.
Fear filled the faces around him as the boys crouched down in horror and with loud screams fled the scene, a bewildered Michael staring after them.
He cautiously canvassed the area around him. Nothing.
He got to his feet, dusted himself off, shrugged and happily trotted the rest of the way home.
Ginger fluttered over to Trixie and gave her a smart whack with her wand.
“You know we aren’t allowed to use our magic on humans!”
Trixie grinned broadly.
“Bet that’s the last time they bully little Michael,” she said firmly.
With Ginger still muttering querulously behind her, the fairies flew under the enchanted Wonderboom, a gleeful Trixie overjoyed that she had paid careful attention in her “Mystical Shapes” class and was able to transform Michael’s shadow into a fierce beast that had scared the bullies half to death.
