Flash Fiction for Aspiring Writers

“Attaboy!” James patted Falco, who wagged his tail happily, proud of how he could always makeΒ the Jackson family happy.

Then the Master fell sick and the insurance didn’t cover it. Falco wasn’t sure what this ‘insurance’ or ‘Cancer’ was, but he tried his best to help. He’d make sure the newspaper was always at his Master’s feet and be there to greet the school bus, but nothing he did made them smile like before.

On his Sunday walk with the kids, Falco suddenly raced towards an abandoned shack and the kids found him under an old, decrepit car, emerging with a rusted box in his mouth.

Their parents gasped when the kids showed them what was inside. The stolen diamond necklace had been in the news for months, the thieves had feigned ignorance when caught, but it didn’t end there; there was a reward!

Falco didn’t know how, but he’d finally done it! They were laughing (and crying?) and hugging him. All he did was chase a cheeky rabbit under that broken-down car!
